FRIDAY

friYAYSTORYTIME vol.01: Jaguars

{friYAYSTORYTIME is a series of blog posts I make on Fridays. It is a permanent one!! I don’t have any other categories for friday. Anyway, this is a collection of chit chats about my childhood, embarrassing stories, funny incidents, inspiring tales and just normal stories I want to share (+etc..) that are based on real life. It will also contain mini life updates. Heh. This will be the most informal series in my blog btw. Idk. I just really want to be able to share stories to you guys. Don’t doze off while reading!!}

Soooo.. hi. Ok I have to admit this is the hardest series I’ve come up with. I thought it would be the easiest considering how talkative I am!! Ugh. I’ve literally laid here in my bed for an hour now just thinking of a tell-worthy story.

For today, I’ve decided to share the best (also most fun and memorable) thing I’ve experienced in junior year in high school. It was our mini cheer dance competition!! I call it “mini” because it was just our class. Our school didn’t have an intramurals that year so we asked out P.E. teacher if we could have cheer dancing as our project instead (idek what we were thinking) and she agreed. Our class was divided into two groups. I was actually very nervous then because I really, like REALLY wanted to win. Hashtag competitive af. Luckily, I was put to the group where most of my close friends were in, so I was at ease.

Just a couple days later, we had our first practice after school. Ok.. now when I say that the group was a mess then, what I mean is that there were actual chaos at the practice. I’m not even exaggerating!! I looked at us and just thought “well, so much for wanting to win!!”. We weren’t even rehearsing steps yet. Everyone was just testing waters and looking for what they’d be great at like lifting, dance routines, exhibitions, etc. That very same day, two of my group mates accidentally tried to cartwheel at once (each coming from opposite directions) and yes, they bloody crashed and smashed to each other. It was a hot mess, my friends. Lol.

The next day, while we were “practicing” (if you can even call it that !! dont blame us we didn’t really know where to start yknow), an alumnus from our school saw and told us we can hire him as our choreographer. Knowing it was hopeless if we tried to do it just us, we agreed. I didn’t like Kuya Francis at first though tbh. Muka kasi sya mataray. But I was wrong!! He was very maharot (he’s gay btw), makulit and funny!!

After that night when we met Kuya Francis, we immediately started practicing every single day. Yes. We brought jogging pants and rubber shoes every freakin day to school. For just a project? Yes. Every freakinnnnn day dude. Looking back, I still don’t know what we were thinking.

Being that we can’t stay long in school to practice, the group (we were 27 and decided to call ourselves Jaguars) had to leave and find another place to practice on after 5pm. Because of this, we pretty much weaved our way through the entire project 2 and 3 in QC. It was very tiring and distracting! We would practice at one place and be told to move somewhere else. Naku. A group of tanod, a very angry old lady and even a barangay captain have all shooed us away saying “sagutin pa namin pag may nadisgrasya sa inyo!!” Poor us. Huhu.

Typically, our practices would finish 8pm (the earliest). Effort and time beshies. It came to the point that the second I get home, my parents wouldn’t ask me anymore where I’ve been and would just ask “kumain ka na?” Hahahaha! They got used to it. Were we crazy for exerting that much effort? I guess we really were. There’s just no sane explanation aside from we were enjoying it so much.

To make this brief, we practiced A LOT, a member of us actually got into an accident (she fell during one of the liftings) which shook and scarred us all (i dont want to go into detail about that here), the competition took place, and we, in fact, WON. 🎊

I don’t want this blog to be about that win though. What I want to share is how fun, memorable and one of kind the experience was. Up to this day, I still clearly remember how we would all eat before practice, how the stretching was bone and muscle aching, how we would all be short of breath after redoing a couple of routines, how we would laugh while sitting on the pavement during break times, how Kuya Francis would make the girls do 50 sit ups and the boys 50 push ups whenever he gets mad at us, and how we would scare each other at night saying “huy bakit umiilaw yun” or “parang wala yung anino na yun kanina” (lol@this). My buddies when walking home then were Dominic, Jay-Bee and Philip. No matter how tired we were, we would still do stupid things like ring a random house’s bell and run as fast as we could after (one time, Dominic didn’t realize we already rang a bell so he didn’t run lmao), or that night when it suddenly smelled like sampaguita (it was an Ash Wednesday) so we ran as fast as we could like the young and stupid kids we were.

My favorite practice was probably our last and grand rehearsal just before the day of the mini competition. It was in QC Circle!! I think we finished at 10pm or so. Waiting and seeing the colorful fountain light up, with the Jaguars and Kuya Francis, was worth it though. Looking at the dancing water, I remember realizing then just how much I would miss all of it but also how I was incredibly grateful for the tight bond we gained from this supposedly simple “project”. Yes, it maybe was just a silly little project, but for me, I gained 27 family members because of it. It was all worth it.

Kuya Francis just casually showing off.

Our grand rehearsal in QC Circle!!

The actual show.

My heart is swelling with joy right now just reminiscing about those good ol’ days. Sighhhhhhh. I know I posted this so late!! Sorry!! Haha. Hope y’all sleep soundly tonight. I know I will. 😌💕

THURSDAY

huweBES vol.01: Anchellie

{huweBES is a series of blog posts I make on Thursdays. To express my appreciation to all my loving friends, I’m going to feature them here!! Hey. Listen up. If we’re pals, there’s no need to rape my inboxes, ok? You’ll get your turn. Lol! Here’s to all these wonderful and beautiful people in my life. <3}

img_6004

Name: Anchellie Yco Catacutan

Age: 18

What I call her: Anch

Year we met: 2014

I’m kicking off this series with the very first class president I had in college — Anchellie! To be completely honest, I really planned to be friends with this one (lol). Right off the bat, she had this extremely positive and genuine aura that’s very rare these days so yes, it was love at first sight I guess.

Anch and I don’t have much in common when it comes to interests but we jive, nonetheless. We can spend hours just chatting about random things (err well some are not entirely random 😉😜). I swear she doesn’t get tired of being SUPER supportive and listening to me babble. Also, even though we don’t really see each other everyday anymore, I can still hit her up when I need her and she’ll be there for me. She’s that kind of person (naku lalaki na ulo nyan oh puring puri!! hahahahaha).

img_6012-1img_5993img_3059

I’m just so thankful I got to be close to her even if it’s only been three years since we’ve met! I mean, she gets my crazy and I get hers as well. And like what I’ve said to her before, she’s like one of the sisters I never had. 👯

To the bes: Anch! We all know how bright and studious you are (given na yon!! Haha) but what I want to tell you is that I hope you keep being kind, helpful and strong hearted. You’re one of a kind bes! You are a ray of sunshine. I’ll always be here for you, cheering you all the way beshie! Loveyou! At dahil jan here are some more throwback pictures of us!! HAHAHAHA 💖

WEDNESDAY

miyerkuLIST vol.01: Favorite 80s Movies

{miyerkuLIST is a series of blog posts I make on Wednesdays. Here, you’ll find top ten countdowns or just a list of ten items in no particular order featuring different categories (e.g. top 10 favorite authors, 10 summer essentials). *Disclaimer: everyone has their own different opinions and preferences and I don’t expect all of mine to be similar to yours. Idk. These are just my lists! Bahaha. }

Born in the 90’s, I am very regretful of the fact that I wasn’t born a decade or two earlier. I was on highschool when I first discovered the wonderful era that is the 80’s. I became practically obsessed over the amazing music, memorable fashion, the TV shows, culture, and especially the movies. Truly, I became nostalgic over something I haven’t even experienced first hand.

There’s just so much material for reminiscing; yes, the 80’s were a goldmine of wonder, and undoubtedly was the best decade for a child to grow up in.. a tragic story for me.

Sharing a personal part of myself, here are ten 80’s movies that are truly special to me and would definitely make you fall in love with the 80’s, too!:

10. E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982)

rating: 3/5

A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home-world.

I’m not a fan of movies that involve aliens (although I believe they are real 😉 ) but this one’s totally an exception. I’ve seen this when I was still little and have always loved it because of the lessons and the creativity it taught me as a child. It’s a great film to grow up to.

9. Stand By Me (1986)

rating: 3/5

After the death of a friend, a writer recounts a boyhood journey to find the body of a missing boy.

This movie is the home of my very fav actors! They were all young kids but were extremely moving and powerful in their characterization. Also, the plot is bloody brilliant.. and have I mentioned how amazing all the actors are?

8. Back To The Future (1985)

rating: 3/5

A young man is accidentally sent thirty years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, and must make sure his high-school-age parents unite in order to save his own existence.

This one’s a feel-good-for-all-ages film. I’ve watched this a couple times now and I still have a good time. With its great storyline and genius cast, what’s not to love? Plus, there’s definitely nothing like a time travel movie y’know.

7. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

rating: 4/5

Harry and Sally have known each other for years, and are very good friends, but they fear sex would ruin the friendship.

This movie is very dear to my heart and it grows like an old wine. The script is gold (until now) and you’d definitely fall in love with the characters’ funny and witty romance, with no choice. It’s one hell of a ride watching this film.. it’s chaos and beauty all at once.

6. Sixteen Candles (1984)

rating: 4/5

A young girl’s “sweet sixteenth” birthday becomes anything but special as she suffers from every embarrassment possible.

Sixteen Candles definitely personified what the 80’s was all about. The story is simple enough, but it works so well. Molly Ringwald (my fav 80’s teen actress) is particularly likeable in this, and she is just irreplaceable in her part.

5. Say Anything (1989)

rating: 4/5

A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.

Aside from the fact that this is a John Cusack film, I love this movie because it couldn’t be more brave and honest with its message. This film was bold with its intentions and was, I think I would call, an HQ picture of what reality is. It’s a smart and genuine film that made me laugh, cry, and go crazy. Love love love this. (fav scene in the gif)

4. Some Kind Of Wonderful (1987)

rating: 5/5

A young tomboy, Watts, finds her feelings for her best friend, Keith, run deeper than just friendship when he gets a date with the most popular girl in school.

I know it’s not as well known, but this film came together so well that it can’t be denied. A great mix of comedy and teen melodrama, this movie shows just how hard it is to open up yourself and let someone know how much you care and also how one can be blind and not see love in front of their eyes.. *violently finishes a pint of ice cream while crying*

3. Can’t Buy Me Love (1987)

rating: 5/5

A nerdy outcast secretly pays the most popular girl in school one thousand dollars to be his girlfriend.

Admittedly, I love those cheesy 80’s teenage love stories and this is by far my favorite (I swear it isn’t because Patrick Dempsey is the love of my life). Can’t Buy Me Love is a sweet romantic comedy that’s still great after all these years. Safe to say that this was and still is the best teen flick of the 80’s! People had been calling this film cliché tho and yes, it might be a little bit true. But what’s that saying again? Cliché’s are cliché’s for a reason.. it’s because they work. Always! Can’t Buy Me Love is a gem I am forever grateful for.

2. The Breakfast Club (1985)

rating: 5/5

Five high school students, all different stereotypes, meet in detention, where they pour their hearts out to each other, and discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought.

This movie is one, if not THE best 80’s film there is. The fact is, every teen character in this movie can be related to someone we knew in highschool. With the direction of John Hughes, shot chronologically with such quotable golden script, with several legendary improvised and impromptu scenes by the best 80’s actors that people still talk about today, I truly madly fell in love with this movie. Truth is, I didn’t just watch this film. This film reached out to me, grabbed ahold of me, and have never let me go since. A part of me, is me, because of this movie. 🙂

1. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

rating: 5/5

A high school wise guy is determined to have a day off from school, despite what the principal thinks of that.

First of all let me just say that this movie is genuinely, crazy funny, watch-it-sixteen-times-and-it-never-gets-old kind of movie. I remember watching this and questioning what I’ve been doing all my life. Ferris Bueller might be an “ass” but hey, he’s one hell of an adventure-fetish-makes-you-wanna-do-crazy-stuff-yourself-breath-takingly-awesome-ass. I feel so good and carefree at the mere thought of this film. 😉 If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch already! Much loved and much quoted, my favorite 80’s movie still stands the test of time as a gripping, funny, high school caper! By the way, this is another John Hughes film, oh what would the 80’s be without him?!

There you have the 10 best 80’s movies for me. Feel free to check ’em all out!

Have a great day!

TUESDAY

chooseWANDERLUST vol.01: Amsterdam

{chooseWANDERLUST is a series of blog posts I make on Tuesdays. In no particular order, I will share the places I aspire to travel and explore. I’ll tell you my reasons why I want to see them in real life and also research about the places so we can learn some actual helpful stuff. Lol. Ahhhhhh. My fingers are crossed that I really get to see them all in person one day!! Also – yAS after five months I’m finally back!! HAHAHAHAHAAHAHA}

967544-amsterdam.jpg

Amsterdam, the capital of Netherlands, is known for a flat landscape of canals, tulip fields, windmills and cycling routes. It is the home to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the house where Jewish diarist Anne Frank hid during WWII.

Admittedly (don’t judge pls), I first got interested in the city when I read all about it in — I know you already know — The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Just how could my curiosity stop after reading?! The dude practically described the place as magic. I wasn’t disappointed when I looked it up though, for I came to find that at least, I think it’s actually very verrryyyyy close.

article-2677209-1F3F2C6300000578-9_634x399

Starting with its name, Amsterdam is derived from the city’s origins: it grew around a dam in the river Amstel. Cool, right? Moreover, because it is built around water with 165 canals (combined length of 60 miles) and over 1200 bridges, it’s even known as a version of Italy’s Venice hence the nickname “Venice of the North”.

il_fullxfull.398520961_px2c

From the pictures and travel video blogs (I’m a regular stalker of all my travel goals ok?) that I’ve seen, the city seems to have such a romantic charm. All the houses and houseboats look pretty, several museums are just around, and bookshops and cafés are everywhere. It doesn’t look and feel like a city. It’s a living escape. Youtubers I follow (i.e. Tess Christine and Allana Davison) said that it is the perfect chill place to just walk around, observe people, admire the beautiful structures and even turn to cycling around if you want to! Personally, I love anything cozy and welcoming in atmosphere so just imagine how much I crave this place!! I’m a complete sucker for anything laid back and homey in vibe.

I mean.. isn’t everything just so pretty!?

dscf0690cafe-cuba_s345x230

Totes unreal.

Another thing to love about Amsterdam is that there’s not a lack on the activities you can do. Hundreds of festivals happen around the city throughout the year – from big dance parties to fashion events and arts fairs. Boredom doesn’t exist in Amsterdam. And oh, the canals? They have lights on them turned on at night and look amazeballs when reflected in the water!

amsterdam-12

You can buy good food just on the streets, and they are sold by the city’s naturally good humored and queer people. Also, Amsterdam is one of those cities that you can visit anytime for it just looks beautiful all year round whatever the season may be.

MONDAY

lunesINSPO vol.01: Petrichor

{lunesINSPO is a series of blog posts I make on Mondays. Here, I talk about my inspiration/s for the week. This includes the vibe I’m getting, style/fashion I’m into that particular time, quotes I’m currently leaning on, etc. Basically, it’s what theme I feel the coming week’s going to be.}

Living in a tropical country, it’s not entirely surprising that we’re invaded by tropical cyclones (typhoons) in the month of October. Whilst most countries are bathing in the joy of Autumn’s arrival, we Filipinos (with our precious wet and dry seasons), are stuck inside the corners of our homes because of the constant heavy rain outside.

Hey now, I might sound like it, but I’m not complaining (I just really wish I could experience Autumn too. Ya’ feel?). To be honest, I actually really like the state of our weather this past week. Admittedly, staying indoors while listening to the tapping of rain against my window is one of my easy guilty pleasures in life. Plus, I can do all my indoor activities without a worry that I’m missing out on the going-out life.

I could binge watch all the movies and series’ of my liking, write and read whatever I want, sleep all day, have pampering self sessions every night and what not. I could do what I want to do and it won’t feel like I’m wasting time, because it would still be raining outside.. It would feel like no time has passed.

I know it’s terrible of me but I can’t help but wish for a continued rainy and cozy week! Can you actually blame me?

Nah, you can’t.

Have a great week ahead! 💙

P.S. Stay dry, mga bes.

Everything Misyel

Hi, you. Welcome to Everything Misyel! Before anything else, I’d like to extend my gratitude for taking time to check my site. I work really hard for it so it means a lot!

Sooo basically, this is my personal everyday blog (but you already know that!). I’ll be posting updates every other week – post seven blogs straight, take a break for seven days, then post for seven consecutive days again in the best of my ability (but please don’t hate me if I fail once in a while).

I’ve been meaning to do this blog for some time now, too. I’ve missed writing so much and I seriously need to get my brain to work again so I thought why not obligate (sort of) myself to publish a simple entry every day? It can’t be too hard (or so I think). Also to make it a bit more interesting, I made various categories/segments for each day so that it won’t be repetitive or just be sappy and whiny all throughout (although it might still be, *just a little bit i promise*).

This is something I’m doing entirely because of my love for expressing, writing, and sharing my thoughts and experiences. I hope this won’t be wrongfully taken as a brag of achievements, abilities, life, etc. To give a real warning on what’s going to be here though, it’s going to be raw, friends. And I mean real raw. It’s my actual main goal — express my truest self, both the pretty and the ugly side, and let go of any pretentious crap there is in my body. Because it’s not like I’m a fake person, but I’m not always me as well. I just know I’m holding back so much more and I can’t have that any longer. So what better way can I do that than start through writing, right? Are you excited? Because err, I sure as hell am.

Again, welcome! Yayy!!

P.S. Constructive criticisms are very much encouraged. Thank you in advance!

P.P.S. I originally wanted to blog every single day but I feel like I’ll be sacrificing content if I did that. I hope the arrangement I settled for works just fine for y’all. This gal’s on her final year in uni so please bear with her! ❤
